Seeking God?

If you have landed on this page because you are seeking God, we couldn’t be more delighted.  Seeking God comes in many forms.  At times it can be a hunger so intense you have to find an answer NOW—RIGHT NOW.  It can also be an emptiness that doesn’t drive as much as it drags.  Life seems like it is black and white but it should be in color—something is missing.  Seeking God can even be an intellectual quest—a question that needs to be put to rest somehow.

We would like to help you seek in a way that makes the Christian faith a possible choice for you.  To do that, you have to explore it.  Maybe you have explored other spiritualities or maybe this is your first.  Of course, we hope it becomes the end of your journey of seeking and the beginning of your journey of faith.

To seek God in the Christian faith you will usually need three things—some patience, some good questions and some Christian community.  Patience is needed because God is a personal being and He engages people in a wide variety of ways.  Sometimes it is a short journey of seeking but usually it isn’t.  In reality, your seeking is a part of a process where God is already working in you.  Seeking is a spiritual experience.

You will also need some good questions.  Any manifestation of Christianity that doesn’t encourage questions is deficient.  Your questions can be experiential—such as why God didn’t protect you from some life loss or trauma.  They can also be historical—did Jesus really exist and is the Bible a credible record of things that really did happen.  They may be scientific—does science disprove God’s existence.  Questions will serve you well as you wrestle through coming to faith in Christ.

Finally, some healthy Christian community won’t hurt at all.  Don’t expect a perfect Christian community because, as you always suspected, the church is full of hypocrites.  Not that we Christians are all total hypocrites but, to some degree or another, our lives don’t reflect the perfection of God’s character.  When you accept that, you will be able to learn about the beautiful Christian concept of grace and the importance of a forgiveness-based relationship with God in Christianity.  But being around people who do believe can help you along on your own quest for faith.

So, how can we help you?  Obviously we are a church and if you live close enough, you are welcome to join us.  Many of us were welcomed once as seekers and we are glad to have you journey along with us in worship, learning or other fun activities that churches do.  Elsewhere on this web site you can get a preview of how to connect with us sometime.  If you don’t want a step that big, or you don’t live nearby, you can send us an email at the address below.  Depending on the volume of emails and the difficulty of your question, we will try to answer you within a week.

We know we can’t convince you, but we can coax you—come on let’s check out Jesus and the faith built around Him.  Even the journey of seeking is one worth taking.
